Preparing Kids for School and Boosting Reading Skills

Getting Kids Ready to Succeed

Managed by United Way of Berks County, the Ready.Set.READ! (RSR) initiative is a collaboration of volunteers, educational organizations, corporations and community partners working together to help improve third grade reading proficiency in children in our community.

Why do we focus on third grade reading skills?

Third grade reading proficiency is a critical component of learning and an indicator of long-term educational and life outcomes. Yet 50% of third-graders throughout Berks County are reading below grade level.
